Circuit of Culture

For this task we were required to discuss a something about culture in group. Then, plan an Installation art based on culture.

After discussion with our module leader, we have picked a place to talk about culture. It is the Hakka Village which is place in the middle part of Mantin.

Hakka Village

Hakka means, a member of a people of southeastern China and the dialect that they speak. Almost 130 years ago, a huge number of people were brought into Mantin by the British. They were the southeastern Chinese which is called Hakka people. The reason they were brought here in Mantin is to work in the tin mining areas. They selected a place nearby the mining area and build a village for their own accommodation. When the British left, they stayed where they were placed. Till now, they are there. The speciality of this village is the culture and the ways of the houses are build. A peaceful village it was. But few years ago the land were sold and came in a private developer for the reason of constructing a shop lot. Most of the family which is the blood line of the previous generations were chased out from some part of the village due to demolish the village. This lovely village is a place where should be preserved.

Using this village which is not well preserved and taken care, this village are selected to be applied as installation art of it's Culture.
