Reflection of Industrial Training

During this semester of industrial training, t-shirt printing and designing is the industrial place that I have selected. Values upon profession are adoptable during this industrial training period. This is very useful and measured according previous experience and achieved now for future industry.

            First of all, design skills of using Adobe Illustrator are improved in multi ways. Previously unknown tools were explored during design process while trying to make a design interactive and in a creative way. Skills and the practice of using this application are much easier and helpful for a designer that might get in such an industry of t-shirt printing.

            Moving on to next, is the marketing skills. Marketing is a method of reaching the clients by promoting things in many ways that is suitable according to some different fact by consideration. During the internship, marketing specifically in Kajang is not easy unless the strategic spot and method of doing marketing. Few methods of marketing were carried out during the internship is by distributing flyers and visiting other industry premises to collaborate in introducing each other in the market. What I understand is the way how we use to reach the clients and the customer. Although, it is just basic and lower base of marketing.

           Other than that, due dates are the most important matter of consideration in all aspects of procedure that is ran in the company. One reason the due dates are important is to sketch the process and the time limits of an order to be submitted. From this, what I learnt from this to finish up the progress according to requirement to avoid overdue.

            Lastly, teamwork are one of the most important during the internship. This is because, the design and printing industry has many process. Each person in the specific industrial premise plays an important role. One work might lack due to one employer been lacking and dragging the whole process.

            In conclusion, t-shirt design and printing is not as easy as it is seen in daily life. It depends on the materials, design, quantity, quality and budget. Designing for a t-shirt might take a lot of process depending the need of client and customer. Other than that, an industry of business runs in many scope of requirement for success such as marketing, customer bonding, social service and communication. All the values that I have learnt in this industry are to be attached in the future industry.

Week 6 (4 Jan – 8 Jan)

6.         Continuing the remaining design that is required. For the sixth design, starting it with round shapes with the idea like bubbles and names of group members in the bubbles. This tee shirt design is called bubbles.

The shapes are duplicated to fill it with more bubbles and to add more space for names in it.

When satisfied of round shapes that unites as bubbles, they are joined all together. This is to avoid breaking it up into pieces and looking messy. Then, sampling ‘name’ were filled to show how does it look as it has been filled with names.

Later on this design were attached on a vector tee in Ai to keep it as draft and soft copy of the work. Additional design can be added by customers if needed to this tee shirt design.

7.         Following the next design, is the A-maze-ing design. This particular design is made of maze style. The names and shapes are made of maze game board. The names are placed in each sides of the maze’s wall.

8.         While thinking for the next design, my free time game inspired of a design to be used for the school commercial tee design. This design is about crosswords. It contain names as in cross forms. Alphabets are arranged mixed and according to name sampling.

9.         Next design for the commercial school tee is Splatter. This design is a splat shape design that is filled with names in it. Starting the design by creating the splat shape and filling it with names.

10.       Final design for the commercial school t-shirt is about friend+ship. This design is specially named for old friends and long term friendship. It is started with a shape of ship in it.

 

The ship design were filled with name samples and by grouping it with a ‘FRIEND’ typeface in a square box. This is a combination of typeface and shape that gives a different meaning or word.

During the week by designing, the pre-production work are also carried on as usual. Pre-production such as Silhouette cutting, vinyl printing and vinyl peeling process.

Week 5 ( 28 Dec – 31  Dec)

Commercial tee shirt for school are mostly ordered and produced in Hotspot printing. Therefore, 10 sample tee shirt design were required for the log book of the company. These 10 designed are required to be fresh and new in market.

1.         Firstly the idea of my design was about numbers. The reason of selecting number is because student of secondary school that demands numerical design as following year they finished studying.

The number typeface were transformed to outlines as in shape form.

Sample names were typed and placed in the number shape by clipping mask method.

Then lastly for this design, the typeface with numerical shape were placed such as printed on tee shirt. Moving on it, the design were required to be installed in a sample picture that is given in the company (source: internet).

2.         Moving on to my next design which is called Formal. This design is about the way of dressing and identity. So, for gents, tie was a very significant symbol. Hence, the tie shape was given with typeface of names in it by clip masking it.

The same process were carried on to the second design by placing it in a vector tee shirt for sampling the design.

3.         Next design for the commercial tee called Ipad. This design contains app icons with names in it. This design is a suitable design for students that is active in technology and apps.

4.         Moving on to the next, it is called Facebook Friends. This tee shirt is for the one who are friend in both Facebook and real life friends. It has a slogan ‘WE ARE NOT FB FRIENDS, WE ARE REAL FRIENDS’ on the shirt.

This design used the symbol ‘f’ for facebook and it was applied to shape and then added names by clipping mask tool in Ai.

The same process were carried on this design by placing it in a vector tee shirt for sampling the design.

5.         The fifth design is about Tag. This design is a tag that contains typeface of names in a tag. The names in the tag is the list of friends or members of a group.

The names in the tag is attached by the help of clipping mask. All the designs of this company are applied with the same method. This is due to the file format that is used to be attached in the Cameo Silhouette cutter driver application. This application able to trace PNG file images. Thus, all the files of design are saved in PNG format.

Industrial Training

Week 4 (21 Dec – 25 Dec)

At the beginning of week 4, a requirement of a banner to be designed were requested due to the new shop and place of the company. The instruction were given is to be simple, spacious, theme coloured (red and black) and summarised details of the services of the company.

Firstly, the banner was planned to be white in background with black and red lines to maintain the theme colour.

Other than those lines, the company logo placed at the top left of the banner. The top left angle selected because to show the title of the banner which is the logo of the company.

After that, typeface of services and type tee shirt printing to be placed on it. This is as the requirement of the supervisor.

After aligning the typeface correctly in place the banner need some inspection of supervisor for critic and additional details. This banner design was never bothered and the supervisor designed a different banner which is very similar with this.

Pre-production processes were worked while designing the banner. Mostly, pre-production as printing the I-dot paper, vinyl cutting, measuring tees, and peeling vinyl and i-dot papers were the majority worked on.

Week 3 (14 Dec – 18 Dec)

Designing flyers

Since having a discussion in a group with all 4 members of the company, a flyer design were required by the employer for distribution around the town of Kajang. First of all, I started collecting some pictures of the previous works of the company to be included in the flyer. Then by the idea of attaching some previous work with some fonts and some printing service, I sketched one idea based on the requirement.

While handling all the pre-production processes, in between started to work on designing the flyers design in Adode Illustrator. First of all, I tried to attach the accepted sketch into Ai to get as what have planned.

This is how I started designing the flyers. Moving on it, design process by placing a textured background design for the flyer.

While running the initial pre-production for the other clients and designing the flyers. This idea was rejected (no reason). Different type of flyers are started to be designed by the supervisor. Continued settling customer’s orders and pre-production works as usual.
