Trip to Kuala Lumpur Art Galleries

A Trip to KL

A trip were conducted to Kuala Lumpur in week 4 (17 March 2016), it is to visit the museum and art galleries in the city of Kuala Lumpur. This will help us to understand the techniques of how galleries are presented and managed. Additionally, it improves personal skills such as observing, documenting, photographing, interpreting and etc.

First of all, the national Museum was the place of visitation in this trip. This particular place is well managed and divided in sections according to the artifacts in it. Some of the ancients-life artifacts are replicated and some not. Each artifact were given a short explanation that tells story/explains about it. Other than that, the exhibit methodologies especially about the lightning were applied to highlight the specific art to visualize it clearly to audience. This gives a special effect on the artifact but depending to the direction of the lights were given to the subject.

Next was to the National art Gallery. Here, most of the arts were placed independently as it has different perspective and message (not in group/section). Every angle of the lighting was well applied to show the art appropriately to the audience to observe. As was in the national museum, the arts was given specialized lights to give special effects and for better visualization. What are the most significant things was type of artifact that is exhibited level by level. On the first floor, all were paintings and few sculptures on the second floor, majority was sculptures and minority on paintings.

Moving on to the 3rd place of visitation, Petronas Art Gallery at Suria KLCC, Petronas Twin Tower. This is a gallery where majority artwork was installation art and sculpture, while at the minority was paintings. In this particular space of exhibition, most of the artworks are about emotions and things that involve living style and state of mind.

At the end of this trip, I felt confident in myself of how to observe and understand arts. This is due to self-interpretation on every single artwork and its space. Previously, a trip were held for the module Museum, Gallery and Heritages. It was a trip where I had not much experience about interpretation and observing things. Now, since practicing on exhibition especially when exploring about it, this helped me a lot to see and analysis things in every single point.
